10 Things You Don’t Want to Miss at the Kentucky State Fair

There is no shortage of great events, competitions, shows and exhibits to see at the fair. With so many to choose from, how do you know what events to put on your schedule? We have compiled a list of 10 things to enjoy this year at the Kentucky State Fair to help you choose.

  1. Visit the Kentucky Bourbon, Bites & Brews Tent presented by Six Row Events located on the West Lawn featuring Kentucky Bourbon, Kentucky themed food and craft beer. Visitors learn the process of distillation and brewing via displays and talks with local brewery/distillery representatives. Local bands will entertain.
  2. PAW Patrol - LogoBring the kids to the South Wing Parking Lot and see the Spin Master Mobile Tour August 22 and 23, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The tour features characters from PAW Patrol, Little Charmers and Chubby Puppies; with activities, family photo opportunities, new toys and limited edition giveaways.
  3. Head over to the Sivori Country Music Tent to see Mount Washington, Kentucky-native Shane Dawson preform August 20 -23, 8:25 p.m. – 9:15 p.m., 9:40 p.m. – 10:40 p.m., 11:00 p.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  4. New this year, The Kentucky Pork Challenge invites home cooks to submit their most creative and flavorful pork recipes. Combining fresh pork with up to five other ingredients for a convenient and memorable main dish, Thursday, August 27 at 6:00 p.m.
  5. On Saturday, August 29 at 8:00 p.m. head over to Cardinal Stadium to see Joan Jett and the Blackhearts with special guest Devour the Day for FREE as a part of the Kentucky State Fair’s Turf Concert Series. Jett returns to the Kentucky State Fair after her concert was canceled last year due to dangerous weather conditions.
  6.  cookGo to the Gourmet Garden Stage for the Kentucky Farm to School Junior Chef competition Friday, August 21 – Saturday, August 29. Sullivan University partners with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Farm to School Junior Chef program for the Kentucky Farm to School Junior Chef Competition. Scholarships totaling $70,000 will be awarded to the Junior Chef Champions who will be crowned in the statewide competition.
  7.  New this year, educational exhibit, Magna Carta: Enduring Legacy 1215-2015 funded by the Louisville Bar Association and the Kentucky Bar Association. Celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta is commemorated in this Library of Congress exhibition that tell the story of the Charter of liberties that England’s King John granted to his barons in 1215. Open daily, located in south wing B.
  8. Visit the Habitat for Humanity Cargo Container Project. Kentucky Habitat for Humanity will retrofit a cargo container prototype into a economically and environmentally sustainable home.  Located in the South Wing Parking Lot.
  9. ©DoaneIMG_7647Visit the Team FMX freestyle Motocross stunt show featuring the world’s most extreme dirt bike stunt riders in a non-stop, action-packed show. Located in the South Wing parking lot. Shows are daily at 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
  10. Casting CrownsAttend one of the FREE Christian concerts offered by the Kentucky State Fair’s Turf Concert series. Casting Crowns will perform on Monday, August 24 in Cardinal Stadium at 8 p.m. and five acts on Sunday, August 25: Family Force 5, Hawk Nelson, Matt Maher and For King and Country at 4 p.m.
